Tourism nowadays is a major field of economics. It generates a big part of the employment base. It also generates the big income and tax payments. So the tourism is attractive for all the percipients. Victors spend their time with joy, spend their money on different leisure activities and have fun. Persons who are involved in the travel industry can earn money and build a profitable business. The government gets tax money which could be spent on the city infrastructure and renovation.

But how people will know about your city? There are all thousands of interesting places to visit all over there world, and it is very important to attract travelers to visit your location. This is a task for advertising companies. The classical advertising media like newspapers, radio, or TV could be used. But these sources are usually expensive and not very reliable. You could also print a colorful information booklet about your city. But how will you bring it to the potential visitor? In our age of information and mobility something new should be invented and implemented.

Millions of people use smartphones and tablets to be connected to the global network during traveling. They also try finding information about interesting places using a search engine or a travel portal. But there might be dozens of articles there and it's very easy to be stuck with such a huge amount of information. So the aim is to store all the detailed information about a location in one place and deliver it all together in a friendly form to the traveler.

How about the City Guide application that will contain all the spots for staying and eating, all the interesting routes, have to be visited places with thumbnail images, and detailed information?

You could probably think about the development and subsequent support efforts in implementing custom applications for your needs. But there is another way. You could use the generic "City Guide" solution, specially branded for your destination.

City Guide is a generic client-server solution. It contains a server part and a client application that will be provided to customers. On the server there is an admin zone with a user friendly interface. In a few clicks you could configure all what you need. Configuration allows the following:

  • Custom tours. You can insert all the tours that will be interesting for visitors to attend. Here could be not only the usual sightseeing tours. You may also add here special tours like "Ghost tours", "Night life tour". Such unusual tours attract people more than just walking through the town looking at monuments. All the tours could be illustrated with the images.
  • Events are usually the things that could do your location really special. Who would know about the small town Punxsutawney in case there wouldn't be a world famous groundhog Phil that predicts weather. And you could find something special at your place, like music festival or country fair. There a lot of examples from all over the world, when just one special day could bring thousands of visitors and make your city famous worldwide.
  • Routs look similar to the tours with a difference that people could make their tours themselves. You could give all the required information to help tourists plan their way through your location.
  • Places are indicated as separate points on the map that are worth visiting. In some cases a tourist doesn't want to walk all the tour. Or maybe he going in transit. There is a special class of tourists like "one day tourist" who could spend only a few hours at your location. It is especially relevant if your place is located on a highly loaded way. So the visitors could just stop and relax before continuing their way. And it very important to mark the most interesting places for them. And it is also very important to locate good places to eat. For tourists that stay for longer periods the map with hotels will be also preferable.

In a few words I've presented the basic possibilities to customize the City Guide application. It has a very flexible structure of configuration, so you could set everything what you need. City Guide is a powerful instrument to promote a city and to make your advertisement mobile. Tourists will get a detailed and interactive information service. You will also get a growth of your place attendance in several times just in a few clicks with the City Guide solution.
